What happened

Erfan was shot on the evening of the 8th of January in Aryashahr Square, Tehran, while standing among the front lines of the crowd. He was struck by two bullets fired by a sniper positioned in the Goldis Tower.

His friends rushed him to Ibn Sina Hospital, but for hours the hospital refused to provide any information about his condition. Around five hours later, his photo was finally seen among the many victims killed that night.

According to hospital officials, all those killed that night were transferred to Kahrizak.

Finding Erfan’s body in Kahrizak took more than 10 hours. Teams of two—friends and relatives of Erfan—opened more than 1,500 body bags in search of him.

In the end, Erfan was found just as he always was: with a smile on his face.

His proud body was laid to rest on Saturday at Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery in Tehran (Section 329, Row 189, Grave 71), beside his heroic brothers and sisters, so that the motherland might once again take pride in her children, and the cries of sleepless mothers might raise millions of brave fighters like them—so that the path to freedom may never, even for a moment, be left without travelers.
